Case Study

Specialist retailer , custom POS built around real workflow.

Custom point-of-sale software for Holydog, a specialist dog-food retailer. Tailored to their actual shop-floor workflow: stock, billing, and customer records in a single interface, instead of adapting a generic SaaS stack to a workflow it was not built for.

The engagement

Generic SaaS does not fit every workflow.

Holydog is a specialist pet-food retailer focused on natural and raw food for dogs. The shop-floor workflow, managing specialist stock with specific storage requirements, tracking customer feeding plans and reorder cycles, and processing sales with dietary notes, did not map cleanly onto any off-the-shelf POS product without significant workarounds.

The brief was to build a custom POS that matched how the business actually operated: stock management that understood product-specific requirements, customer records that tracked feeding history and repeat-order patterns, and billing that processed a typical transaction in the same number of steps as the staff were used to, not more.

The result was a single-interface application combining all three functions. Staff could process a sale, check stock, and pull a customer order history without switching tools.

01

When generic SaaS does not fit the workflow

Most POS products are built for standardised retail: scan a barcode, take a payment, print a receipt. Holydog's workflow covers specialist stock with storage requirements, customer feeding plans, and repeat-order tracking. None of it mapped to a standard POS data model without significant workarounds.

02

Three systems in one interface

Stock management, billing, and customer records were separate concerns that the shop floor handled in sequence during every transaction. Combining them in one interface removed the switching overhead and made a typical sale faster than the manual process it replaced.

03

Built around actual workflow

Before writing a line of code, we mapped how staff actually processed a transaction: the steps, the decisions, the exceptions. The application was designed around that workflow, not a textbook version of it. The result was adoption without retraining.
